Newsletter Archive: Disturbing Gay Pride Week for Jesus – 4/25/2007

For many years, the newsletters for Open Air Outreach were only published through email. Those newsletters were not posted online. We are now in the process of archiving these old newsletters online so that they are available to the body of Christ at large to read and be encouraged and edified by them.

The contents from this post was an email newsletter sent out on 4/25/2007

Recently, a Pastor in Montana had the whole Open Air Outreach team up to preach on the University of Montana in Missoula. We had a full week of preaching Jesus to the campus, calling them to repent and put their faith in Christ.
We didn’t know this when we planned our trip, but it turned out to be “Gay Pride Week”.
The campus sodomite and lesbian group had planned a whole week of celebrating homosexuality. We arrived on campus to see rainbow flags all over the center of campus. They even had a drag queen show in the union and then came out to our open air meeting, the men wearing their dresses.
While we did preach against homosexuality, it wasn’t our main focus (though it was their focus). We preached against all sin and exalted the salvation found in Jesus Christ. April2007OAOJesseDay2
It was a good campus and we were able to draw in some pretty good crowds every day. Some of the same people stayed for hours and hours and kept coming back day after day.

The second day, we found a pretty good hill to preach from, that gave us elevation but also gave us room to walk around and be more animated. It also had bushes in between us and the crowd, so it kept the crowds back when they grew large. The sidewalk allowed people to create a half circle, and students were able to sit down on a wall that was on one side. It was also a location that people could see from across the campus, so when a large crowd would gather, others across campus could notice it, and so it would grow. It was also next to the Union so the area got a lot of foot traffic. Logistically, it was a good spot to preach.

It was great being able to preach so far up North because the majority of the people were heathens, pagans, etc etc. Down south it seems we always get more “religious” students who drink and smoke at college but still say “I love Jesus”.

So we had much less time debating with hypocritical Pharisees, and were able to actually call the sinners to repentance! By the time we left, the whole campus was talking about Jesus! It was great. Praise God!

STIRRING UP THE RELIGIOUS!
Tyler Texas

Though I am not allowed on the Tyler Junior College campus, without facing arrest, there is a surrounding sidewalk on Wednesday that get’s some foot traffic around noon. The area has a parking lot and all the Christian student organizations have their buildings there so students go for their free lunch. I’ve been preaching on this campus when I am not traveling outside of Texas.

I go out there with my sandwich board on and a foldable chair that I can stand on. When there is a little traffic, I start preaching against sin. “There is a lot of sin on this campus. We all know that a lot of Tyler Junior College students are going to hell!” This gets immediate attention as a crowd gathers and I am able to explain how the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is everlasting life, how sin seperates us from God but Jesus seperates us from sin!

Some say, “You preach too much about hell. You shouldn’t tell people about hell!” But my thought is, that if people would just turn to Jesus, and stop heading for hell, I wouldn’t have to tell them! But as loving Christians, we must warn the wicked if we know that they are in danger! We must tell perishing souls about their danger and about the Savior!
Here is some of the dialog that occurs on the Tyler Junior College campus:

—————————

Professing Christian: “I sin every single day, but I am saved!”

My thought:saved from what?

—————————

Myself: “You must turn from your sin and turn to Jesus Christ to be forgiven!”

Professing Christian: “Everybody is already forgiven because Jesus died for everyone!”

—————————

Myself: “You must repent and believe to be saved!”

Professing Christian: “You are preaching a works based salvation!”

—————————

Myself: “I believe Jesus Christ died for every single student on this campus. Do you believe that?”

Professing Christian: “No! I don’t believe that!!”

—————————

And then finally:

Myself: “Sin is a voluntary choice to violate God’s law!”

Professing Christian: “Your body is sin. You are a sinner because you have a body. And so long as you are in your body, you are a sinner!”

—————————

It seems that the BIBLE BELT needs to get back to the BIBLE! Yikes! I couldn’t believe the things I was hearing from this campus! I may never cease to shock the campus with my strong beliefs, but the students never cease to shock me with their strange beliefs!

I know that some of the Christians on campus said that they agreed with me and that I was preaching the truth. But other “Christians” seemed to be outwardly righteous holding their bibles and going to Church, but were inwardly full of iniquity!!

We took some video footage while we preached in Montana and it’s some of the best footage that I think we have taken. The videos have good hecklers, good crowds, good questions, good answers, some apologetics, some humor, solid preaching, etc etc

I have been putting theological points to visual charts to help illustration the message.
You can use these charts for bible studies, home groups, family devotions. It would be good to look up all the scriptures listed and discuss them in relation to the topic of the chart.
