Newsletter Archive: Open Air Preaching Causing An Uproar! 3/21/2007

For many years, the newsletters for Open Air Outreach were only published through email. Those newsletters were not posted online. We are now in the process of archiving these old newsletters online so that they are available to the body of Christ at large to read and be encouraged and edified by them.

The contents from this post was an email newsletter sent out on 3/21/2007

Open Air Preachers Causing an Uproar!!

“Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets. She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words” Proverbs 1:20-21
“Fools make a mock at sin” Proverbs 14:9
We have been a regular voice on the Kilgore College campus. It’s a small campus and so we see a lot of the very same students every time that we go, so we can both plant and water the seeds. The campus paper recently said we were “Causing an Uproar“! To which I say “AMEN AND AMEN”. I wish every preacher would cause an uproar for Jesus!
The administration and campus police have been given us a hard time. First they put us in a free speech area which was out of the way of the walking traffic. Then they put a two hour limit on the free speech area because large crowds would gather. Then we decided to stand off the campus on the public sidewalk and preach to the campus, to avoid the time limit and the badly located free speech area. Then they came out with spray paint and marked where we cannot pass. Now they are attempting to say that we need to get a permit (permission) from the city to use our constitutional right of free speech! We have not attempted to get permission for free speech and hopefully never will.
But even with all the opposition the word is still being brought to the students on this campus. Please pray that they awaken to reality and come to their senses as we preach to them about their souls.
“He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him” Hebrews 6:9
“And great multitudes were gathered together unto him” Matthew 13:2
“And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation
Luke 11:29

“I came…to call the…sinners to repentance” Luke 5:32

“And they went out, and preached that men should repent” Mark 6:12
This was a great time in Lousianna during the annual Open Air Preachers conference put on by Consuming Fire Fellowship. Open air preaching certainly seperates you from many Christians and preaching repentance and holiness seperates you even from other “preachers”. The way I see it, if you are not a preacher of holiness you are a preacher of backsliding. But this conference was a great encouragement full of Holy Ghost preaching.
We went out to the LSU campus every day of the conference and ministered to the students through open air, one-to-one, and literature distribution. They gathered and stayed for hours and hours as we preached about the deadly consequences of sin and the greatness of knowing Jesus Christ personally as Savior and Lord.
“Grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy word” Acts 4:29
“ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude 1:3
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight!”
Mark 1:3
We have had the blessing of preaching on the Texas Tech campus every semester for the past three semesters. This was one of the very first campuses that I started preaching on. Everytime we visit the campus it causes no small stir.
The first picture shows a student preaching who was very encouraged by the outreach after listening for a couple hours, that he himself stood up to testify to the crowd. And next to him in the chair is a brother who the Lord dealt with the last time we were on the campus, who is still going strong with the Lord!
We know that God wants absolutely everyone to be saved, that nobody was created to sin and go to hell but were created for a personal relationship with God.
Pray that the students will wake up and come to their senses, that they will stop walking after the pleasure of their flesh but will yield their wills to the conviction brought by the Holy Spirit.
Pray that God will thrust forth more open air preachers, who will reach the multitudes with the message of the resurrected Lord.
And pray that all who hear the gospel will respond to the gospel, that they will flee to Christ from the wrath that is to come!!!!
And GO to the sinners!! Go to the WORST of them!! And tell them the TRUTH!!
