For many years, the newsletters for Open Air Outreach were only published through email. Those newsletters were not posted online. We are now in the process of archiving these old newsletters online so that they are available to the body of Christ at large to read and be encouraged and edified by them.

TOURING THE EAST COAST
STUCK IN VIRGINIA
This is a picture of the parking lot in Virginia that Jeff and I were stuck in for two nights and one day. Before leaving on the trip to Connecticut I paid no small cost to have my car fixed. But a day into the trip the same exact problem occured: the car wouldn’t start! We stayed in the van for two nights and were able to get it towed to a mechanic on Monday who temporarily fixed it so that we could make it all the way to Connecticut.
The City of Hartford, Connecticut
Two years ago I was wrongly arrested in a public square in the city of Hartford for preaching the gospel. The criminal charges were immediately dismissed and I filed a lawsuit against the police and the city. The suit is not for any financial gain but is simply to secure the protection of free speech in the public streets of Hartford. We recently had the depositions for this lawsuit in Hartford. More information is below.
While in Connecticut we found a great side street where we could preach to the Yale Students. A nice police stopped by during our outreach and encouraged free speech but just requested that we be mindful not to block free passage.
The weather was colder then desirable but we were still able to draw in crowds on and off each day. To be honest, I was not impressed with either the morality or the intelligence of the Yale Students. Statisticly I’m told that 1/3 of the student body is homosexual and another 1/3 is bisexual. This is why Yale has become known as the “Gay Ivy”. Even the secular Time Magazine once referred to Yale as “a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah”.
And after preaching to the students myself, I believe these strong claims. During the three days of ministry at this campus, multiple students identified themselves as homosexuals and bisexuals and six males physically exposed themselves to the whole crowd dispite the cold weather. God help the future leaders of our world.
We find that signs and banners greatly help in grabbing the students attention, making our presence known, and getting the message out. This is one of the home made signs that we made specificly to use on the Yale campus. It lists many of the major sins of the campus, calling the students engaged in such practices to repentance, while we were able to springboard into the message of faith in Christ.
During our east coast tour we will be preaching at The University of Connecticut, Pennsylvania State University, and Virginia State University. Please keep these campus meetings in your prayers as we bring them the message of the saving power of Jesus Christ!
TOURING THE WEST COAST
(The East Coast and the West Coast is being covered at the same time! Praise God!)
Miles Lewis, Eli Brailey, and Evan Schiable recently toured through the state of California, boldly declaring the message of the gospel on:
Mesa Community College
College of the Desert
University of California, Riverside
University of California, Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara City College
University of California, Los Angeles
Team two is now touring back through the United States from California to New York, preaching on many campuses on the way. Please keep these Brothers in your prayers.
As Paul who once asked the soldiers regarding their conduct, “is it lawful” (Acts 22:25) and once also appealed “unto Ceasar” (Acts 25:11), so am I appealing to the courts for a ruling on whether or not the officers conduct was lawful or not.
We recently had the depositions for this lawsuit in Hartford. My lawyers, from The Alliance Defense Fund, are very confident regarding this case. The Police Officer and the Cheif of Police maintained their position that if someone complains about the preaching, the preaching then becomes illegal and is considered “breach of peace”. The fact that someone is complaining, regardless of the content of their complaint, shows that you have violated their “right to peace”. Apparently the “right to peace” transcends the right of free speech protected in the constitution.
So Herod only needs one complaint from his wife to behead John the Baptist. (Matthew 14:8) Hmm…..
But they claim that we have free speech, and free speech is protected, so long as nobody is bothered by it, annoyed by it, or complains about it. My question is, if free speech is not protected when others do not like it, when is it protected at all?
They are ultimately say that the speech is legal if people like it, but it’s illegal if people do not like it. The officer even said in the deposition that if ten people liked it but one person complained, it would be against the law.
I believe that this case, especially after the depositions, will be an easy win. I’ll keep everyone posted.
NEW HAVEN LAWSUIT
Again, two years ago I had an incident with some Connecticut Police officers. In one night at a club area in New Haven, I was threatned with arrest four seperate times by four seperate officers in four seperate locations. One of them stopped me while preaching. The other three stopped me before even getting a chance to preach!
I filed a lawsuit against the officers and against the Cheif of Police who manages and trains these officers. This lawsuit as well is not for any financial gain but is simply to secure the protection of free speech in the public streets of New Haven.
A couple months ago we held the depositions for this case. The officers claimed that my preaching was “disturbing the peace” and even could be considered “disorderly conduct”. Of coarse, legally neither of those charges apply to free speech at all. What is very interesting is how three of the officers threatened to arrest me if I simply attempted to preach! They didn’t even hear what I was going to say or even how I was going to say it before they threatened me with arrest. But they automaticly concluded that this was “not the time or the place” for free speech, especially the free speech of the gospel – calling sinners to repentance.
After these depositions, where the officers admit that they threatened to arrest me under these charges, my lawyers from The Alliance Defense Fund are confident that we are going to win this case. This again seems to be a fairly easy win. I’ll keep everyone posted.
