Preaching to a Home Fellowship in Kentucky
HOW TO BE HAPPY AND BLESSED IN THIS LIFE
During our ministry travelings this year I was able to speak to a small home fellowship in Kentucky. The question of, “Your Blessed Life Now! How to Live the Happy Holy Christian Life” was on my heart and mind. There are many passages in the Bible that speak on being blessed so in my teaching I went through many of these passages.
My key texts was, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psa 1:1-2.
The key principle is that sin tends to misery and holiness tends to happiness. God’s commandments are good for our life whereas sin brings destruction and death. The way to live a happy life is to live a holy life.
“To bless” means “to make happy,” so when the Bible says, “Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities” (Act 3:26), this is saying that God blesses us or makes us happy by making us holy – turning us from our sins. Holiness is the key to blessedness.
I also explained how regeneration is a re-genesis: bringing man back to the original state and condition that God had intended for us – a state of happiness through holiness. Sin and misery were not part of God’s intention and design for mankind. Sin and misery are foreign invaders which came into the world through the deception of the devil and Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.

Beer Festival, Nashville TN
I admit that a beer fest is probably my least favorite place to preach the Gospel. I would personally much rather be on a university or college campus, when people are sober, to engage them in more intellectual discussion. But the Lord first preached to me in a jail cell and I’ve seen numerous people repent and get right with God while preaching on the street outside of bars and clubs. This beer fest needed some street preachers and so we stood up to fill that need!
We had a nice megaphone and picked a location that was far enough away from all the different venders to try, to the best of our ability, not to bother them. After preaching for a little while on the bullhorn I was able to draw in a nice engaging crowd that circled around. One man blasted his musical horn for a while to try and drown us out but to no avail. I warned the sinners of God’s wrath and judgment and urged them to consider their ways and repent. Many stayed and listened for a long time as we preached.
Towards the end of the day we started marching around with our signs and bullhorn throughout the event. We wanted to cover more territory before we left. A police officer approached us and gave us a hard time at one point, saying that we were offending people by what we were saying. I told him that I was offended at what many of them were saying. Many of the people there were cussing and using profanity openly in the streets. Of course, the Officer had no problem with their public profanity, only our public preaching. In the end, he was unable to stop us from preaching and we continued to call sinners to repentance.
Bowling Green State University Campus
Bowling Green State University is a campus I had only preached on a couple times before. It always reminds me of the campus preacher who greatly inspired me named John. He used to preach this campus back in the 90’s.
This particular day I felt very fatigued with low energy and a sore throat. I don’t know if it was all the traveling and preaching wearing on me or if it was a cold. Either way I still gave it my all and after maybe 45 minutes of preaching, I had gathered a nice crowd that stayed for many more hours.
As the day progressed the crowd got closer and closer and circled around me. Only one man at least pretended to be so mad that he wanted to get violent, but others held him back. I found the general attitude of this campus to be very light hearted and mocking. They held signs that said, “Vader is Lord” and “The Death Star Cometh.” It was good that this campus got a good healthy dose of rebuke from the Scriptures.
Downtown Louisville Kentucky
After campus one day there was an art festival downtown the team wanted to preach at. I was told that this event attracted a lot of homosexuals. When I started preaching there was one man in particular who became very angry and started heckling me. When sinners get convicted, they respond either in anger or humility. He was choosing anger. But praise God there were five Police Officers standing right there watching. This helped him to control himself a little better. With all these Police Officers and this angry heckler, a decent size crowd gathered which is rare on the streets.
One homosexual came up to engage me in dialog. It seemed to me that he was trying to distract me but I continued to engage him directly about his sin. He said that he believed in God but was sure that he couldn’t change his sexuality. I explained to him how sexuality is in the brain and through his free will he can rewire his brain. God created us with the power of neuroplasticity – we shape and form the connections of our brain through our choices. I explained to him that if he would repent and start obeying God, his brain would heal.
I also explained to him the difference between temptation and sin. Temptation is a suggestion to the mind to gratify a natural desire in an unnatural way. Sin is a free choice of the will to obey the temptation. Temptation is not sin. I explained to him that he isn’t a homosexual because he has homosexual temptations, but because he chooses to embrace those temptations. If he would just say no to sin and yes to God, he would no longer be a homosexual. You shouldn’t identify yourself based on your temptations but by your chosen character.
Stranded in Tennessee Broken Down
As we were traveling through the United States with our travel trailer, we hit the hills of Tennessee and that was too much stress on some of the old parts of our vehicle. Our vehicle overheated and was leaking coolant. We were stranded in a small town and had difficulty finding a repair shop for our SUV. When we finally did find a repair shop, they charged us an enormous amount of money just for replacing the radiator, which is hard on a missionary budget.
When we hit the road again with our travel trailer, we didn’t make it far before we overheated and started leaking coolant again. We took it back to the repair shop and found out that they didn’t replace any of the old hoses when they replaced the radiator, even though they charged us a fortune! Once they replaced all the old hoses and we hit the road again, we managed to get out of the hills of Tennessee without overheating anymore. We had to drive with our heat on just to keep the meter down. We finally made it home to Texas but knew something was still wrong. When we took it to our repair shop back home we found out that though they replaced the radiator and the radiator hoses, they didn’t replace the radiator cap! And we were still leaking that way! Praise God we finally made it home!
Making a Difference for the Kingdom of God!
I get emails all the time from all over the world from either sinners who repented and got right with God under our ministry or from believers who have been inspired to share their faith or whom we have influenced theologically.
ENCOURAGED IN HOLINESS
“My names Martin, I’m 26, born in Armenia and raised in Los Angeles. I came across your videos on YouTube and you’ve taught me a lot of important biblical and historical truths, the early church (Amazing documentary) and that we actually can be holy and saints and are commanded to be. in the 15 years that I’ve gone to different Christian churches I’ve never heard any of the important topics that you talk about around where I attend, by Los Angeles area. I want to thank you for you service and your sermon videos have greatly impacted my walk as a Christian towards building a stronger faith with God. My dad is a Calvinist and it’s been helpful to be able to defend the truth when him his pastor and friends debate me all at once. I really commend you for what your doing because it’s serious, the early church belief is so crucial. Even outside of Calvinism a lot of denominations are geared towards Augustine’s teachings with sinful nature which is leading Christians with no end goal of achieving holiness and being what God intended us to be. I thank you again and I know you must be busy but a reply would be awesome, you’ve been a great role model to me.”
ANOTHER ENCOURAGING EMAIL
“I somehow wound up with a post of yours on Facebook. I honestly had my skeptical doubts about your tactics. But then, I watched several of your videos and I am in awe of your courage and your anointing. As you were preaching, I watched the crowd of some young college students. They are so hungry for the WORD. So hungry, they stood within hearing distance, nonchalantly pecking around on their phones. They were acting like nothing was going on. And one said in shock, “You mean I’m going to hell for being homosexual?” I was floored. They honestly don’t know. They haven’t been taught. And they are hungry for what you are giving them. And then there was the lesbian who challenged you at every statement. Even made lewd remarks and it went right past you like a feather in the wind. We have to get bolder in our faith in Jesus and the good news of the gospel. I heard one guy tell you that these people need love and mercy. Telling them the truth IS love and mercy. You make me proud. We are surrounded by Christians who dilute the realities of what Jesus taught and you are not one of those. Fight the good fight young man. My group of intercessors is praying for you. Protection and wisdom for you brother. We love you.” ~ Tina
THE FRUIT OF REPENTANCE
ENCOURAGED IN HOLINESS
“How have things been going with the ministry lately? I hope all is well with the family as well. Was just thinking about you today. Wanted to let you know how thankful I am to have met a brother like you. You have done such awesome work for the kingdom of God. One of the things I will always respect you most for is the way you deal with those with whom you are in disagreement. I have never seen you lose your cool even in the face of mockery, scoffing, or physical violence. Coming to know you through FB and youtube was a breath of fresh air for me back in 2009. I was a young man trying to convince old people in a baptist church that we were called to live holy. They made me feel like a lone nut lol. It was great to find brothers like you, who were not only in agreement with what I was seeing concerning the Christian life, but were also around the same age. That is something I struggled with mightily, my age. I was a 21 year old who was asked to teach a brotherhood of a baptist church. The average age of the men in the brotherhood was probably around 53 years old. Seeing brothers of my generation boldy preaching the truth of the gospel gave me confidence that God’s hands were not tied when it came to whom he could use to spread his word. I know we have not talked much over the years, but I wanted to take this time to let you know that your ministry for the Lord is appreciated. You are one of a few brothers I know who would make his works available for free, even if just for a short time. Stay encouraged and continue to walk in the way brother. Hope to see you one day face to face. Love you man, God bless. “
