Communist Students Blast Horns to Stop Street Preacher Jesse Morrell

 photo NewHeader_zps7adacaac.jpg

University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati is a great campus to preach on. A couple years ago the campus adopted a “sponsorship policy” to keep unwanted outsiders off campus. Their policy required a student group inviting you and sponsoring you to campus in order to preach. Such a policy is nothing more than censorship. And since it is a public campus, such a policy is unconstitutional. But praise God, after I challenged their policy a couple years ago, I haven’t heard anything from them about it since. I warned them that they were setting themselves up for a free speech lawsuit and they backed down. The campus is now wide open for preaching without hinderance.

A good size crowd circled around for a couple hours as I stood on a wall and preached against a building, holding a Scripture sign. I could tell that these students are not accustomed to encountering conservative street preachers. They were shocked by some of the most basic biblical truth. Many were careless, some were interested, and some were convicted. Good seed was planted that in time could take root and bear fruit.

University of Louisville

The University of Louisville does not have the best free speech area. It is slightly off the busy walkway and they rope off an area for you to preach in. It takes a lot of energy to round up a crowd but after maybe 30 minutes of preaching, I was able to gather listeners. All you have to do is preach on some hot button topics until you get one person to engage you in public debate/discussion and then a crowd will follow.

Eventually the crowd moved in closer and closer until they were as close as possible. Another obstacle on this campus, besides the not so good location of the free speech area, is the time limits that they put on each speaker. I think each person is limited to about an hour and a half. Usually, that is only enough time to get started on a campus. But we had a good size team with multiple brethren so we each got a “permit” which gave us all back to back time slots. It is nice to be able to “tag team” preach with other brothers.

The video from this day is on my Youtube. One person said, “watching you be a mighty voice and preacher teacher is an amazing opportunity…via youtube… your team and yourself are so dedicated and hard working…so inspiring… and comforting…watching you from Hong Kong ..Huggs for GOD LOVERS”

Northern Kentucky University

I had been preaching on campus for a very short time when this group of students went and got these blow horns to drown out my preaching. They called them “Horns Against Hate,” because I was preaching against sin. But they revealed themselves as a communist group on campus! The leader of the group even had a ring on with the communist symbol. Communism has never been the friend of free speech, that’s for sure.

They crowded around and blasted their horns at me but eventually the Police came and shut them down for causing a disturbance. Imagine if a Christian group showed up on campus with horns to blast groups they disagreed with, like the abortionists or homosexuals! They would be arrested! But liberals use tactics that conservatives would never be allowed to get away with.

Another attempt at shutting down my speech was their signage. One sign said, “Atheist for Tolerance” but their protest was itself intolerant of my preaching. Another sign, which they held in front of my face, said Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. Jesus did say that a man will leave his father and mother and be joined unto his wife and the two shall become one flesh. The thing about these hand held signs is that their arms get tired so if I just keep preaching long enough, the protestors hold their signs down.

We returned to the campus the next day but this time preached in their amphitheater. The amphitheater was unavailable the first day because of a Gay Rights rally that was going on – I believe a drag show. Though we had gathered a larger crowd then they did so their drag show ended up coming to our outreach. Anyways, when we first started preaching in the amphitheater it was very empty but slowly and surely a crowd started to form.

Nothing draws a bigger crowd on a secular campus than the bold proclamation of the gospel, especially if you boldly confront their sins. It wasn’t too long until the students filled the amphitheater, took their seats, and engaged us in dialog and discussion. The key with keeping their interest and attention is to answer their questions. Once the students realize that this is an open forum where they can expression their views and ask questions, they get hooked for hours. What an amazing ministry God has blessed me to be apart of. College Students gather around for hours and even days to talk about God and listen to the gospel!

I started an instagram over a year ago and it was going well with 1,700 followers, but I posted my very first street preaching video to it and somehow my whole account got shut down for “hate speech.”

Now I started a new account where I am posting only pictures (to avoid being shut down again). You can follow me on instagram at:

We’ve been so busy traveling this year and working on our YouTube Channel and Facebook Page that I have gotten very behind in my email newsletters. Now that it is summer time and the campuses are on break, I plan on catching up.

The University of Alaska, Anchorage

One of the blessings I had this year was being able to open-air preach on the University of Alaska in Anchorage. Besides the outreaches that we have done on this campus the past few years, this university never see’s campus preachers. Usually when a campus is not accustomed to campus preachers the students act very aggressively and hostile. This crowd, as a whole, does the opposite. Most of the students just gather around and listen, enjoying themselves and asking questions. They are always a very well behaved crowd, with a few exceptions.

Like I said, there are exceptions. As you can see in the pictures above, one student tried to steal my banner sign. He snuck up behind me and grabbed the pole. But after a game of tug-of-war, I managed to keep the banner. The Police soon moved in to “talk” to the student. Of course, they don’t want to arrest students because that would affect the school’s tuition. There is an obvious conflict of interest. But there is a double standard because if I showed up on campus and tried to steal somebodies property, they would surely arrest me.

The same student who tried to steal my banner the first day joined the crowd the second day and actually listened and engaged me in dialog for a couple hours. He was much more receptive and attentive to what we were actually saying the second day.

During the couple days we spend on campus, I “tagged team” preached with my friend David who lives in Anchorage. He ministers a lot on the streets but joins me on campus when I am around. What was nice is that he had a sign we could use. Since I fly to Alaska from Texas, I am not able to bring any banners with me. So it is nice to team up with brethren who have signage as that greatly helps in getting the attention of a campus.

Teaching Videos at a Connecticut Beach

Screen Shot 2018-05-04 at 3.00.33 PM

When we were on tour across the United States, I was able to stop in at Connecticut with my family so that my mother could visit with her grandchildren. We enjoyed some time at the local beach and I was able to make some encouraging teaching videos using the scenic backgrounds.

Check them out here:

How to have an Intimate Relationship with God

How to Build Your Life Upon the Rock

How to be a Fisher of Men

EEM Conference, Shipshewana Indiana

Once a year I speak at a small conference in Shipshewana Indiana. Shipshewana is Amish/Mennonite territory so we enjoy seeing the horse and carriages along with enjoying some great restaurants with Amish/Mennonite cooking! I was able to give two lectures to the conference.

Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 7.42.26 PM

My first lecture was on How the Holy Spirit produces Sanctification and Righteousness in the life of the believer. I explained how Sanctification is not a “Second Blessing” that comes after justification, but is a “First Blessing” in Salvation. Salvation is not merely deliverance from the penalty of sin but also from the practice of sin. True conversion is a total surrender of yourself to God, so salvation includes being “set apart” from sin and “dedicated” to the service of God. Sanctification begins at true conversion – at salvation.

Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 7.43.26 PM

I also taught on justification, showing from Koine Greek (Biblical Greek) that justification means to be made a righteous person, that justification is a change of moral character.

Many seem to teach justification as a license to sin. I’ve heard preachers say, “Justification is when God declares us to  be righteous while we are still actually unrighteous.” This is not the justification by faith that Paul taught.

Paul taught that God imputes our faith as righteousness and that our faith purifies our hearts, sanctifies our lives, and works by love. Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that justification was a change of moral character.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 was my main text, where Paul said that the “unrighteous” (unjustified) shall not inherit the kingdom of God. He lists fornicators, drunkards, homosexuals, sodomites, etc. But then says in verse 11, “such were some of you” and then explains why a change of moral character has occurred – “but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified” he said. In other words, the reason the Corinthians were no longer unrighteous fornicators, unrighteous drunkards, unrighteous homosexuals, etc, is because they have been washed, sanctified, and justified. This shows that Paul’s doctrine of “justification by faith” most definitely included a change of moral character.

Glory to God!

Evangelism Exhortation at a Mennonite Church

Screen Shot 2018-07-07 at 7.40.50 PM

I was very honored to be asked to speak to a Mennonite Church in Indiana. This was a first for me. The Mennonites are a conservative Christian community of modest woman and hard working men. They have an Anabaptist history going back to the Reformation, where they were persecuted by both the Catholic Church and the Reformers. They have strong families and are a strong community but, like many churches in America, they are weak in the area of evangelism.

I preached to the congregation, “We are the light of the world, so if the world is in darkness who’s fault is it?” I exhorted them to be active in sharing the gospel because it alone has the power to save our country and change our communities. My message was well received and the pastor told me that next year he would like to have more Mennonite Churches get together for an “Evangelism Conference.”

I regularly receive emails from people all over the world who tell me how our ministry has blessed their lives. Many tell me that they repented of their sins and trusted in Christ under our preaching. Others tell me that they have started evangelizing and street preaching as Christians after being inspired by our ministry.

Please pray for these people!

This is a comment left on my YouTube:

This was a Facebook message I received:

Help Us Reach the Nightlife With the Gospel!

Screen Shot 2018-05-18 at 5.26.14 PM

Hey guys,

I need your help! I am working with an awesome group of young men in College Station TX that have a heart to reach the party nightlife with the gospel. We went out there one evening to preach but didn’t get too much interaction going on. What we need is a sound system!

I want to go out there with a Double Microphone sound system – one of the preacher and one for the heckler / person with questions. This is how I used to preach in the streets 15 years ago and it is the best way to get interaction on the streets (it’s easy to get interaction on a campus but hard on the streets).

I looked online and found a speaker system that looks perfect for only $200. That’s where I need your help! I am looking for some sponsors who will help donate to this cause.

If four people donated $50, or if two people donated $100, or if just one person donated $200, we’d be able to get the sound system!

If we get more than $200, we could get an even better system. But $200 seems to be the minimum for what I am looking for.

Going out there with a preacher/heckler microphone set up could really turn the whole nightlife upside down. There was lots of loud music but I found a huge spot with lots of foot traffic that was quiet, which would be perfect to set up at.

Also, I always thought that the preacher/heckler microphone set up made the best videos too (for those of you who are blessed by our open air footage).

Is it the Holy Spirit’s Job to Convict of Sin or the Preachers Job? Biblically it is BOTH!

Someone made this comment on Facebook:
“The Holy Spirit is the one that convicts us of righteousness not any preacher”
Actually, it’s both.
Jhn 16:8 – And when he is come, he will reprove [ἐλέγχω – to convict] the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Luk 3:19 – But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved [ἐλέγχω – to convict] by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done
Eph 5:11 – And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [ἐλέγχω – to convict] them.
1Ti 5:20 – Them that sin rebuke [ἐλέγχω – to convict] before all, that others also may fear.
2Ti 4:2 – Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove [ἐλέγχω – to convict], rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Tit 1:9 – Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince [ἐλέγχω – to convict] the gainsayers.
Tit 1:13 – This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke [ἐλέγχω – to convict] them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Tit 2:15 – These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke [ἐλέγχω – to convict] with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Biblically, it is the Holy Spirits job AND the preachers job to convict sinners of their sins.
And the biblical support for the preachers to do it is technically greater, as there are 7 verses that support preachers convicting sinners and only 1 verse for the Holy Spirit…
Just saying…

Cleansing the Temple: A Call to Radical Christianity is a book about prayer, purity, preaching and persecution! It is a compilation of very fiery articles calling out the compromise found in most American churches.

Response to Greg Stier with Dare 2 Share by Jesse Morrell of Open Air Outreach

Hey someone showed me some post Greg made comparing my ministry to his, with a poll question as to which ministry was better.

I was wearing a Psalms 7:11 sandwich board. Parents sent their young son to come mock me and a photographer took a picture.

I found the post disheartening. I’ve always appreciated Greg’s ministry and never even thought to compare mine to anyone else’s.

I actually met Greg in 2005. We picked him up at the Dallas airport and brought him to TBN. We had dinner with him and enjoyed his fellowship.

At TBN in the VIP room, we ran into Ron Luce. Ron was my personal mentor for a year and Greg really liked him.

I was just discouraged that Greg would try to publicly put down my evangelism efforts. I thought that is what Dare 2 Share was trying to encourage people to do, not discourage those who are doing it.

We are on the same team so we don’t need any unnecessary friendly fire at each other.

I am doing the best I know how and praise God we see people get saved on the streets all the time.

I appreciate all that Greg did and just wish he didn’t criticize others who might do it a little differently than he does….

Reviews of the 2018 National Street Preachers Conference | Dallas Fort Worth

The 2018 National Street Preachers Conference was a huge success!

The training sessions were very inspiring and edifying. The outreaches were excellent!

The Police estimated the crowd on campus was 1000 people!

Here are some of the reviews from those who attended:

“The conference was very fruitful in that several students/truth seekers connected with me via fb afterwards. Righteous seeds were sewn and I believe with all my heart the Lords word will not return void. His works are being perfected in the Saints and I look forward to learning how to be a better light, a better witness, and more faithful in the area of OA Evangelism, the least supported and most needed area of ministry. Thank you for hosting this event in honor of our risen Saviour! I look forward to serving next year.”

~ Kristi (Wylie, Tx.)

“The conference had brought men and women across the country to hear from both recent to seasoned open air preachers. We were edified in hearing from God’s heart what we as street preachers needed to hear as well as things we didn’t think to hear. But we were not left hearers only, no, we were able to put into practice what we did hear and preach and see the work of God move on college students and strangers alike. Praise God I’m looking forward to next year to see the working of God move again.”

~ Sebastian (Tyler, Tx)

“All I can say is that this conference was excellent! Bible centered teaching, preaching, and exhortation. Daytime/nighttime outreaches were well planned and timed. Fellowship with like minded brethren was greatly edifying. Looking forward to next year!”

~ Zachary (Ashland Ky)

“Wonderful conference, we only stayed for 1 full day, but just that day was worth the drive, the hotel, etc!!! Jesse, thank you for allowing me and my friends to not only join you in preaching, but allowing us to be an influence/speak at such a wonderful conference. Grateful for everyone we got to meet and talk to, looking forward to next year!”

~ Jonathan (College Station, Tx)

“The conference was a great opportunity to meet up with other like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ and to learn how to deal with police, hecklers, lukewarm Christians and more. Kyle gave a great talk on the importance of building disciples to carry on the message and to grow the kingdom. The time of fellowship was just the charge my batteries needed to help me be even bolder when I return home to preach. Thank you to all who put the event together, and to all the great people I got to meet.”

~ Buddy (North Carolina)

I am new in the street preaching community and this conference to me was great. To be around people who have been open air preaching for many years and being able to learn from them and get to know their heart was both a blessing and edifying. So I would say even if your just getting started this conference was a great way to learn from others without having to go through what they did. From handling police to the lukewarm and learning that evangelism and discipleship should go hand in hand gave a solid foundation to start making Christ known in the open air. And also getting firsthand experience with outreaches and solid biblical teachings. True blessing looking forward to next year.”

~ Caleb (North Carolina)

“It was great to meet new open air preachers who are truly saved and love the Lord Jesus Christ and want to serve Him in the beauty of holiness. It was refreshing to be with brethren of like precious faith. Where no pretense was needed.”

~ Jim (Oklahoma)

“Being with men and women who are the on the front lines of the evangelistic front is alway encouraging. I came to the National Street Preaching Conference To learn from there experience and wisdom and heart for the lost. Received a fresh powerful burden of the Lord over the sins of the world seeing the hate in the huge crowd towards Jesus and his word. Praying that men and women will answer the call of Jesus Christ to Preach the Gospel in America and beyond. Come join the National Street Preaching Movement and take our cities back for God.”

~ Kyle (San Antonio, Tx)

“The National Street Preachers Conference was a great opportunity to be poured into and then have a chance to pour out again. Many conferences you attend are set up for you to sit back and learn but this one is set up to put into practice what it is you have just learned right away. This is a meeting filled with doers and not just hearers. It blessed me to see these Saints join together to reach the lost and to equip and counsel each other in wisdom and love. The guest speakers were excellent and the gospel preachers inspiring. Looking forward to next year when I can bring a group I am raising up from my church so they can experience the blessing I did. To God be the glory!”

~ Roger (Nacogdoches, Tx)

“It was an honor to be part of the first national street preachers conference. The Lord used the men in this conference to reawaken in me a burden for proclamation. As a young preacher the wisdom I can glean from these men is priceless. I’m taking back the things I learned into the church to raise up more preachers and to bring more people to the conference next year! Everyone with a desire for more of God should be at this conference.”

~ José (San Antonio, Tx)

Mark you calendars for

March 2019

for the next street preachers conference!

More information is forthcoming.
